GMB says NO to the removal of Flexitime in Harrow Council!

Flexitime has been a longstanding option for employees in different teams in Harrow Council to apply for and use. Despite this being written into some people's contracts, and being customary for many others, HR are advising that managers should say  a blanket 'NO' to Flexitime requests.

There has been no consultation with staff or unions on this, and there is no consistency in the council's approach to dealing with Flexitime requests across different teams.

GMB are calling for:
- For HR to stop saying a blanket 'no' to Flexitime requests where staff are eligible for it (written in contracts & have been using it for years)
- For a standardised approach to Flexitime requests to be discussed and decided in consultation with staff and unions
- For Harrow to treat employees eligible for Flexitime like adults when it comes to their own time management

Why is this important?

Many staff in Harrow Council use their Flexitime to improve their work/life balance. Having a good work/life balance is proven to improve efficiency and have a happier workforce.

Many council employees are dealing with high workloads, low resources, and stress on the job. One simple thing that makes a lot of employees work lives easier (and increases both recruitment and retention) is the ability to use Flexitime.

Taking this away without consultation is not only unfair, but will seriously detriment many employees. This is important to staff as they use Flexitime to have an decent work/life balance whilst many other elements working in local government, such as low pay & high workloads, remain unsolved.

GMB say NO to Harrow Council taking away Flexitime.
