A Memorial in Barking Town Square

Memorial to those who have died as a result of exposure to asbestos
The memorial was initiated by Barking Dagenham and Havering Trades Union Council and is being brought to fruition in partnership with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
The memorial has been funded by generous donations from unions, trade unionists, supporters and members of our community. A beautiful piece of blue pearl granite engraved with a message of remembrance will be unveiled at 11.00am on 28th April 2022. To complement the memorial, an interpretations board will also be placed to shine a light on the harm done by asbestos.
MP Jon Cruddas, Regional Secretary LESE TUC Sam Gurney, Susan Aitouaziz Secretary of Barking Dagenham and Havering Trades Union Council and Jodie Bull from the London Asbestos Support Awareness Group will be speaking. A Book of Remembrance will be opened and maintained to receive inscriptions throughout the coming years. A buffet lunch will be provided at the Barking Learning Centre.
