Act now to tackle the cost of living crisis

This winter, millions of families will be pushed to breaking point. Energy, food and other bills are soaring. Workers are expected to face the steepest decline in wages for 100 years.

And all of this is on top of years of cuts to social security and universal credit, which have already been putting pressure on family budgets.

This economic crisis is no accident - it’s a direct result of successive failures of government, and a broken system that puts the pursuit of profits above everything else.

We need real action from the government now - a plan to tackle this crisis, and to help working people get through the next few months.

Why is this important?

We are calling on the government to:

- Cancel the imminent increase in the energy price cap keeping energy costs stable for every family
- Bring the Big 5 energy companies back into public ownership, like in France, where government-owned energy companies were forced to cap prices.
- Introduce a free basic energy component for all households and a social tariff for vulnerable households
- Bring forward planned increases in social security, universal credit and pensions, and in the National Living Wage, and ensure they are at least in line with inflation.

And in the long term, we need the government to deliver the high wage economy that they promised and a fair, secure and zero carbon energy system for the future.

Sign the petition today to join our call for the government to take meaningful action to help with this cost of living crisis.
