Save The Cherries Residential Home

For over forty years The Cherries in Weymouth has been supporting the needs of children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs in a residential setting. Long standing rated as Good by Ofsted, the home’s bespoke staff team and unique environment has ensured high quality care close to local special schools and amenities which the children can and do access.

It would seem ludicrous to consider fixing something that isn’t broken. There simply is no need or rationale to uproot the children , who are all doing very well, to move them into smaller less suitable premises away from their family and friends, and to disrupt a service and staff team that have proved themselves successful for over four decades! Keep the Cherries as it is!!

We the believe the closure of The Cherries in its current guise by Dorset Council is ill advised and makes little sense , we ask that this proposal is withdrawn

Why is this important?

Over the years the Cherries has become fully integrated into the local community, with friends and neighbours fundraising on behalf of the children, managing to raise nearly £10,000 towards specialist on site playground equipment for the children to enjoy, as well as contributing towards enhancing the homes own sensory room.

The space that the site provides also enables each child to be supported in their own individual flat type accommodation ,with their own staff team, this space being vital to ensure the children can safely be supported in meeting their individual needs.
