No Outsourcing! No Cuts! Save UEL

We are opposed to all outsourcing, including that which has already been done. No job cuts. No cuts in services or courses. No cuts in pay or benefits. Protect our pensions. Bring our cleaners and catering staff back in house.

Why is this important?

Outsourcing means slashing jobs and pensions, low pay, overwork and insecure positions. This would ruin the education and services for students at UEL. Phase 1 is the Finance, IT, People & Culture and Estates & Facilities (or Infrastructure) departments. If they get away with this, phase 2 could be coming next. Already mergers have cut academic jobs. Everyone, except UEL executives, is under the axe.

UEL bosses are cutting academic jobs and have signed a contract with companies, such as Hexaware and CBRE, to outsource multiple services. This would mean fewer jobs, worse services for students and staff and courses under threat. An attack we all have an interest in resisting.

The planned outsourcing and cuts must be stopped. They are an existential threat to UEL, threatening to leave this significant Newham employer as a gutted shell and to undermine an educational institution that has served East London, and students internationally, as the "People's University" since in 1898.
