Support Mitie Workers at Sellafield: Demand Fair Pay Now!

Thank you to the thousands of you that signed this petition and donated to the workers' StrikeFunder. Together, we raised nearly £5000.

Your support meant these workers could stand united and put pressure on the employer. And that unity across weeks of strike action showed Mitie that their workers could keep striking until they won. It forced Mitie to improve their offer.

That’s how GMB members have now won an average pay rise of over 5% for 25/26, with another above inflation increase from April 2026.

This is real change, won by the power of unity. Their victory shows how we can fight the cost-of-living crisis: standing together and demanding wages that cover our rising bills.

The Mitie Soft Services staff at Sellafield including cleaners, laundry, waste, landscaping, postal, and security workers are preparing to take strike action after being offered an insulting 3.5% pay rise. Many of these essential workers would still earn just over £13 an hour.

These workers are employed by Mitie, one of the UK’s largest outsourcing companies, responsible for providing vital support services at Sellafield one of Europe’s most hazardous nuclear sites. They are the ones who keep the site clean, safe, secure, and running.

Why is this important?

Despite their vital contribution, Mitie’s latest offer falls well short:
  • A below-inflation 3.5% pay rise
  • An extra day’s holiday only for those on 20 days leave leaving many workers excluded
  • Sick pay based on managerial discretion, not guaranteed

Meanwhile:
  • Mitie earned £5.09 billion in revenue
  • Took home £234 million in profit
  • Paid its CEO a staggering £14.7 million — 575 times more than the average Mitie worker

“No one wants to strike, but we’ve been left with no alternative. Mitie must recognise the value of our work and the reality of our bills.” - Mark Kirkbride, GMB Workplace Representative.

This is about more than pay it’s about respect, security, and justice for those doing essential frontline work.
