We are asking for you to step in to save Applecart Arts by:
- Allocating £100,000 from from the unrestricted 2025 reserves to keep Applecart Arts afloat, and demand the new government restore the funding.
- Negotiating with Applecart over longer-term subsidy to help it stabilise and expand Newham's cultural offer - if you truly were committed to culture as part of your Borough of Culture 2025 bid, this is the most important thing you can do for culture in Newham.
Thank you,
The creative workers of Newham.
Why is this important?
Applecart arts is a creative venue, housed by Newham Council in the old registry office, providing performance arts to the local community and jobs to Equity members. They are a cornerstone of the community yet Applecart Arts is facing closure due to cashflow issues.
Equity represents many freelancers who find work at Applecart. Such a loss of freelance work is totally counterproductive to what a borough serious about culture is trying to achieve.
You cannot have art without the workers who create it!
