We call on the Minister for Health and the Southern Health & Social Care Trust to protect Daisy Hill Hospital and secure its future as a fully functioning acute hospital serving Newry, Mourne and the surrounding rural and border communities.
Following the permanent removal of Emergency General Surgery and now proposals affecting maternity services, our community needs certainty about the future of Daisy Hill.
We call for:
- The retention of consultant-led maternity and birthing services at Daisy Hill Hospital.
- No further removal or downgrading of acute services from Daisy Hill without full public consultation, transparent evidence and independent scrutiny.
- A clear, long-term plan for Daisy Hill Hospital, backed by investment in its workforce, facilities and services.
- Decisions to properly account for rurality, travel times, ambulance capacity and the needs of the communities Daisy Hill serves.
