Successful Campaigns

I am delighted to inform you that Nautilus members working onboard Isle of Man Steam Packet Company (IOMSPCo) vessels have ceased industrial action after the ferry operator withdrew the threat of fire and rehire and committed to further talks and arbitration if necessary. Following constructive dialogue, facilitated by the Manx Industrial Relations Service, the company has withdrawn notices of termination issued just before Christmas and has agreed to further talks and to engaging in arbitration should talks again result in a stalemate. On January 3 the ferry operator was forced to cut its scheduled services by 50% following unexpected crew leave. Talks are scheduled to continue from January 15. The workers have won pay hikes of between 14.3% and 18.5%, according to job grades. Up the dockers!

Campaign success! After 12 weeks of strike action, the drivers have won a hugely improved pay offer of: - 7% pay increase across the board - 10% uplift on statutory redundancy pay - 1-day extra holiday for all - A commitment to meet quarterly to review agency and sub-contractor use Workers are winning!

We won! Porters, cleaners and caterers will see their pay and holiday entitlement significantly increase, ending the two-tiered chaos created by outsourcing. These workers took the bold and courageous stand up for their rights and dignity at work - and it paid off.

We have some fantastic news. On Monday, South Yorkshire Fire Authority voted against cutting the number of firefighters riding a fire engine from five to four. Together, we've saved 84 firefighter jobs and helped to keep South Yorkshire residents safe. We couldn't have done it without your support.

Campaign success! After 3 months of strike action and tireless campaigning, the workers have voted to accept an inflation beating pay rise which works out at 10.74% based on a median wage or £3,125 in cash terms. Plus, the total financial gain includes a one-off payment of £700 for most workers. Isn't it time you joined a union?

After 2 days of strike action, our members voted to accept an improved offer which provides an additional £5.7m in payments to our lowest paid workers. Oxfam has also committed to work with Unite to introduce a pay progression system and also explore new pay principles (including pay bands) to protect real incomes, and develop new evidence-based benchmarks for minimum wages that ensure all Oxfam GB employees receive a decent income for the hours that they work and are not experiencing in-work poverty. We even printed the petition on a giant A1 board that we held up during the strike days to show how many people were supporting the campaign and the workers.
