South Yorkshire's bus services are broken. But they could be world-class. Right now, private bus companies do what they like, dictating prices, routes, and timetables. You’ve seen the results: catastrophic cuts, skyrocketing fares, and buses that never turn up. It’s not just a bad deal for passengers — drivers are overworked and underpaid, leaving the bus companies struggling to run a reliable service as staff shortages bite. No wonder drivers are forced to strike! The new mayor of South Yorkshire, and your South Yorkshire council leaders, have the power to bring your buses into public control. Public control would mean affordable fares and more frequent buses. All with a smart ticket where daily spending is capped. And why not? It’s what they have in London! It would also put staff pay and conditions in public control, delivering a better deal for drivers and more reliable buses for you. South Yorkshire’s politicians are there to represent YOU! Let them know you think buses should be in public control.

Today Leeds is the largest city in Europe without a mass transit system, but West Yorkshire used to have a dense, cheap tram network accessible to everybody. We deserve a mass transit system equal to that of Manchester, London, Newcastle or Glasgow — nothing less. We have been failed so many times, it feels like it could never happen. But in the 1950s, West Yorkshire boasted a tram network that served every town in the region. Trams were cheap, frequent and reliable. But tracks were torn up in favour of more motorways. Now our failing public transit system needs serious investment, before it collapses completely. Previous attempts to build a new tram system have failed because politicians in Westminster pulled funding at the last minute. This cannot be allowed to happen again. If they can find money to invest in London transport, they can find money for us. A new tram line in your town would make your journeys quicker, open up jobs, reduce local pollution, and bring investment to our community. We need a new low carbon public transport system to fight pollution and climate change in our region. If it's good enough for Manchester, Edinburgh and London, it's good enough for us.

West Yorkshire's bus services are broken. But they could be world class. The new Mayor of West Yorkshire will have the powers to fix our buses by bringing them back into public control. But we won't win this without a fight! Right now, bus companies do what they like and it's a wild west free market. And they're desperate to cling onto that power. Private companies control West Yorkshire’s bus network. They dictate prices, routes and timetables. The result has been catastrophic - passenger numbers have plummeted, prices have risen and services have shrunk. The new Mayor of West Yorkshire, and your West Yorkshire Council Leaders, have the power to regulate our buses. Regulation would mean affordable fares, and more evening and weekend services, all with a smart ticket where daily spending is capped.
